MId-week Update

Hi All,

I was able to post some new photo albums to the blog.  I put on 2 pictures from our September shadow lab with Mrs. Ziegelbauer, and I added LOTS of pictures of us taking some fall photographs outside on a beautiful day.  Hopefully you can see your little angel in those shots somewhere.  When we are all on the move (taking pictures and walking through the woods), I'm lucky to keep track of them all!

Book orders went home on Monday - feel free to order from those catalogues or any of the catalogues on the Scholastic site by next week Wednesday, October 17.  Remember, that each time you order books online, I get to order a free book for our classroom, and I believe, you get a coupon for a free book also!

We took both our Unit 2 math test, and our First Trimester test of secure skills this week.  The Trimester test of secure skills is a math test that only assesses the skills from units one and two that are expected to be secure by this time in first grade.  I will be sending both tests home in the Friday folder this week.  PLEASE SIGN EACH TEST AND RETURN IT IN YOUR CHILD'S FRIDAY FOLDER ON MONDAY.  Hopefully, the return rate will be better for these two tests than for the Unit 1 test.  New procedures are hard to get used to!  :)

We had Mrs. James and Mrs. Fischer bring their JK friends in this week to make some scarecrows after reading a fun book called Scaredy Crow.  Each JK and first grade friend was able to make a scarecrow.  Watch the bulletin board in the hall for our new friends to make an appearance!

We learned a new continent song this week and have been learning about the cardinal and intermediate directions along with the names of the 4 oceans and 7 continents. Please make sure your child is still working on reciting his/her address and phone number. These are things I will be assessing the children on next week or the week after.
